Sheets of paper were flung in the air. A go-getting tourist and a postgraduate candidate crashed into each other.

After startled apologies and embarrassed smiles, Lala, an entrepreneur on a Paris holiday, bought coffee for Sam, who as a self-confessed romantic, was smitten. Afternoon coffee turned into an evening meal, which was followed by a promise: Stay in touch.

Friendship blossomed into romance. They made it work long-distance before making a home together in America.

Now they're back in the city where they began. This time, for a new promise: Forever.
